Where it all started...

The business was established in 1987 when Charles Steevenson opened a small retail shop in the heart of the town. The business moved to the Plymouth Road Industrial Estate in 2003 when the business was incorporated and became an importer of wines and a premium supplier to the licensed trade. Before long, larger premises were required and the business now occupies two warehouse units at the end of the same industrial estate.

When the time came to retire it was only natural for Charles to sell the business to his right-hand man and Operations manager of many years, Michael McGarry. Mike became owner on 1st July 2020, renaming the company Sovereign Wines to ensure it remains distinct from businesses run by Charles’s son Liam Steevenson (Master of Wine) - in fact Mike and Liam went to school together, so it really is a company where everyone knows everyone else very well indeed! Mike is brimming with ideas - his latest innovation is a retail shop which is incorporated into one of the warehouses. As well as welcoming individual customers there are plans to run tastings and educational events in the future.

As well as supplying premium on-trade businesses in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset & Somerset, we also deliver nationally and supply businesses all around the UK.
