Nyetimber - Best in Show

by Patrick Goudge

It is no secret that those of us lucky enough to work in the wine trade are forever searching for ‘that new wine’, an obscure grape variety or the unsung hero of a region no one has ever heard of. As a breed apart, us ‘winos’ have very short attention spans, can be distracted very easily and tire quickly of drinking the same bottle too many times.
This was true when I started in the wine trade nearly 15 years ago and it is still true now.

We could take this concept one step further and say that we even shy away from the ‘big brands’ out there, the well known wines, the vintages in vogue, in our search for something new and intriguing.

Once in a while, however, we are stopped in our tracks by true quality. A wine range that has perhaps been staring us in the face but has been overlooked in favour of lesser known treats, and yet one that totally transcends the search for the new is Nyetimber from England’s south coast.

Nyetimber are now up there with some of the biggest names in wine and this is rightly deserved as the quality of their wines is nothing short of best in class.
Recently, we were lucky enough to taste the full range of Nyetimber English Sparkling Wines and we were absolutely blown away. Elegance, finesse, balance and personality - these wines have it all.
The tasting kicked off with their Classic Cuvée Multi-Vintage, the stalwart of the house and a wine that has taken the Sparkling Wine World by storm since the early 2000s.
It is hard to believe that a mere two decades ago English Sparkling Wine was in its infancy, and can now reach the heights that Nyetimber are consistently known for.

A big thanks to Gemma Butterell for a superb tasting and for (re)opening our eyes to Nyetimber.

Please get in touch if you are interested in hearing more about the award-winning wines from Nyetimber and how they can add interest and quality to your wine list. Cheers!
